Tech Industry Finally Stands Up for Fair Use
Aug 29th, 2007 by phil
According to this article at Ars Technica the high-tech industry is finally willing to stand up for consumers’ fair use rights:
Earlier this month, the Computer & Communications Industry Association filed a complaint with the FTC alleging that professional sports leagues, Hollywood studios, and book publishers were all using copyright notices that misrepresented the law. Now, the group has launched a web site called Defend Fair Use that shows they are serious about making the complaint stick.
All I can say is, it’s about time. I have never understood why tech companies like Microsoft and Intel are bowing to the demands of the copyright cartels. Curbing consumer rights is not in the best interest of their customers, and therefore not in their own best interest. Hopefully, this is a sign of more good things to come.
